Certified water filters
A filter only helps with what it is certified to reduce. Look up the exact model on NSF's certified product listing and check that the contaminant you care about is listed.
- NSF/ANSI 42: taste and odor, such as chlorine. Not a health claim.
- NSF/ANSI 53: health-related contaminants such as lead; some models also list PFOA/PFOS.
- NSF/ANSI 58: reverse osmosis systems; claims can include arsenic, nitrate, lead and PFOA/PFOS.
- NSF/ANSI 401: certain emerging compounds.
